School garden and Nature Play
Black Forest Primary School is proud of its expansive school garden that has supported student learning for over 30 years. With regular lessons for all year levels, the school garden brings together a range of learning areas, combining content from subjects such as science and geography with practical gardening and craft skills. Nature Play cultivates healthy physical and cognitive development through unstructured outdoor play. In 2015, Black Forest launched a new Nature Play space adjacent to the garden. This environment offers a range of play options, including climbing rocks and logs, a dry creek bed, quiet sitting spots and ‘loose parts’ for creative construction, in line with the Nature Play philosophy.
