Black Forest Primary School

Learning Environments

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy that asserts that the environment is the ‘third teacher’, at Black Forest we provide a range of spaces for childrens’ learning. These include spaces for quiet, individual learning, small and large group collaboration as well as for demonstrating and celebrating learning achievements. These environments offer provocation, exploration and discovery, and provide a further platform for differentiating learning to meet individual student needs. Examples of the different spaces include the piazza in the Junior Primary Unit, the Kertaweeta building, with classrooms with movable dividing walls and the shared Learning Street, the Learning Common in the Year 6/7 area, the school garden’s outdoor classroom and Nature Play area, the i-Centre and team teaching environments across multiple year levels.
